Since Criminal Minds: Evolution premiered on Paramount+, fans have once again been entranced by the cases sought out by the longtime members of the BAU. While folks are well aware that Matthew Gray Gubler is busy working on other projects, which don’t include rejoining the reboot as Dr. Spencer Reid, they are now turning to another original CBS actor to make an appearance instead.
In an Instagram shared on November 28, former Criminal Minds star Shemar Moore posted a series of behind-the-scenes photos from his current TV show, S.W.A.T. Dressed as his character Sergeant Daniel “Hondo” Harrelson, followers saw Shemar in police gear while filming a season 6 episode.
“Ayyyeee!!! We’re back at it this Friday at 8pm!!” The Young and the Restless alum captioned the post after Thanksgiving Day. “Hope all my homies, fans, [and] baby girls had a great weekend 🦃🦃🦃.”
As Shemar’s caption featured the catchphrase his Criminal Minds character, Special Agent Derek Morgan, was famous for, viewers of the longtime drama immediately began calling him out to reprise his role in the comments section on Instagram.
“HOW DARE YOU USE BABY GIRL [YOU’RE] NOT ON CRIMINAL MINDS ANY MORE IT breaks my heart 💔💔 still love [you though] but [your] only [baby girl] is Penelope 😭🙌😩,” one person exclaimed. “I need baby boy to swing by Criminal Minds and make a small appearance please 🙂,” a different user pleaded. “Shemar [Criminal Minds] started another season but it’s on paramount+ and Garcia is back,” another fan noted.
Folks may remember Shemar portraying Morgan for the first 11 seasons of Criminal Minds. His character exited in the middle of the season after his pregnant partner Savannah (Rochelle Hayes) was shot and nearly lost their newborn son, Hank. This also came after Morgan was captured and almost killed by an UnSub two episodes prior.

When asked by TV Guide about his reason for leaving Criminal Minds in October 2016, the actor gave a simple answer. “I wanted to see what the next chapter of my acting career is and also have a little balance so I could pursue other avenues of my life,” he told the outlet. “I want to get married, I want to have kids, I want to travel.”
But it later turned out that he wasn’t fully done with the show, as he made two more appearances in seasons 12 and 13. With Morgan coming in and out of the BAU once before, does this mean we may have Shemar appear in an episode of Criminal Minds: Evolution? It’s highly unlikely, due to the fact he’s currently in his sixth season of S.W.A.T.
But who knows, this series does like to throw major cases out there …
