Nicole Kidman was brought to tears when she heard was nominated for Best Actress at the 94th Academy Awards for her portrayal of comedic legend Lucille Ball in Being the Ricardos. Though this isn’t the first time she’s up for an Oscar, she was just as moved as if it were. But it turns out, her celebration was cut short by her children.

Shortly after the full list of the 2022 Oscars nominations was released, Nicole discussed her nearly four decade-long career with The View host Sara Haines. Since arriving in Hollywood, she has received a total of four nods and one win for her work in the 2012 drama film The Hours. Nicole revealed that despite having her eye on the Academy Award nominations, she mixed up her days and the news caught her whole family off-guard. The Big Little Lie star and her husband, country singer Keith Urban, share two daughters named Sunday Rose, 13, and Faith Margaret, 11.

“We’d come back from Australia,” Nicole said on the daytime TV show. “We were jet-lagged. My kids, my husband and I were having breakfast. I thought the next morning was when they were announcing the nominations, so I was not aware. Suddenly, I get a FaceTime call and my kids [say], ‘Your phone is going. Someone is FaceTiming you, mum.”

She continued: “And I pick it up and they go ‘You’ve just been nominated for an Oscar. I’m like ‘What?!’ and I literally started crying. There’s so much emotion attached to it that I didn’t realize I was carrying. Tears were coming down [my face].”

Nicole’s children however abruptly ended the joyous moment to remind her that they were going to be late. “My kids are looking at me like, ‘Wow, congrats, mum. Anyway, we’re gonna be late. We gotta get going,'” she concluded.

Although Nicole receiving an Oscar nomination wasn’t a major shock to her children, she revealed that her family were her biggest supporters while filming. Due to the dramedy being filmed during the coronavirus pandemic, she leaned on her household for constructive criticism. “When I was preparing they were my audience,” Nicole explained. “I’d sit them on the couch and I’d do it. They would be like ‘Hey, you got a lot more work to do.'”

Throughout the creative process, Keith, Sunday and Faith watched her practice her lines and get into character. In particular, Nicole’s husband and one of their daughters, who aspires to be a director, helped her tap into the voice and mannerisms of Lucille.

So, in other words, her loved ones were there every step of the way, including when she got her fifth recognization from the Academy Awards. Who knows, they might just have contributed to her second win!
