  • April 22, 2022

Ozark fans are likely feeling all kinds of emotions right now. On one hand, the Netflix drama’s season 4 part 2 is just around the corner (premiering on April 29!). On the other, once those final seven episodes land on the streaming service, the much-beloved series will come to an end after nearly five years.

But if you’re already wondering how on earth you’ll entertain yourself without new storylines from the Byrde family, we have good news: Jason Bateman has another project underway.

Like Ozark, the actor’s new project focuses on crime but staying true to his background, it’s comedic, too. The project in question? According to Variety, he’ll be working on the comedic thriller Based on a True Story, which will air on Peacock. While news of the show is still relatively hushed, the very fact that it’s in the pipeline will give Ozark fans something to look forward to.

It’s not clear whether Jason will step in front of the camera for the new show but it was revealed that he’ll be helping shape the vision behind the scenes. Based on a True Story tells the true story of a realtor, plumber and tennis star as their lives collide in the most bizarre way. It’s meant to highlight society’s obsession with true crime in a dark and funny way (which brings images of Selena Gomez’s Only Murders in the Building to mind). The Boys‘ genius Craig Rosenberg will serve as the writer, executive producer and showrunner. Jason will also be an executive producer with his production company, Aggregate Films.

“There are some true stories that are stranger than fiction as is the case for the events that inspire this show,” Beatrice Springborn, the President of UCP, the studio behind the series, said in a statement to Variety. “It is a twisted, thrilling, and incredibly funny series that combines the comic and suspense talents of the dream team of Craig Rosenberg, Jason Bateman, Michael Costigan, and Roxie Rodriguez to create the perfect show for Peacock.”

Now, if only we could get a premiere date to mark in our calendars. In the meantime, we’ll just have to bide our time by rewatching Jason’s classics like Arrested Development and Horrible Bosses. (Or, if you want something a bit spookier, you can’t go wrong with The Outsider.)
