As the 74th annual Primetime Emmy Awards continues, it may be hard to keep an eye out for moments between the nominees. Luckily, Ted Lasso stars Jason Sudeikis and Brett Goldstein heard our (silent) pleas, because they just had an incredible behind-the-scenes moment at the 2022 Emmys.
Earlier on in the broadcast, Brett won his second Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series. While giving his acceptance speech, the 42-year-old actor made sure to praise all those who helped him get to the big moment, including his cast members and other nominees.
“Thank you to the academy and Apple, thank you to Jason and Phil [Dunster] and Brendan [Hunt] and special boy Joe Kelly for creating this magical thing and letting me a little part of it,” he said.
He continued: “I would never take it for granted. It’s incredible. To the cast, my fellow nominees, the hardest part about being in Ted Lasso is being in a take and not ruining it by saying, ‘God, you’re good.'”
Yes, this was a spectacular moment for Brett, especially since he won the Emmy in the same category the year before. But he couldn’t celebrate the victory alone!
Shortly after accepting the award, he went back to his table to hang with the Ted Lasso cast. There, he and Jason quickly got together to take the ultimate behind-the-scenes picture as the ceremony continued. Standing side-by-side, the two stars smiled directly at the camera
So, will Brett’s win be the only one for Ted Lasso? That’s highly unlikely. The hit AppleTV+ series received a total of 20 Emmy nominations this year. But Jason ended up followed in Brett’s steps and won Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series for a second year in a row. And he also thanked his cast in his emotional acceptance speech.
