Simon Helberg is once again making people laugh — only this time it’s over the air on Mayim Balik’s podcast, Mayim Bialik’s Breakdown.
Two years after the former costars appeared side by side in the 12th and final season of The Big Bang Theory, they reunited for As They Made Us. In April, Mayim made her directional debut with the family dramedy and Simon starred in it alongside her. Most recently, the Jeopardy! host invited him on to her podcast and they recounted unique experiences, including when folks would approach them about not being fans of Big Bang Theory. As viewers know, Simon played Howard Wolowitz and Mayim portrayed Amy Farrah Fowler.
“Famously, the introduction that people would tend to make to me, particularly when the show was on, they would come up and they would say, ‘Listen, I hate your show,” Simon said to Mayim and her cohost/boyfriend Jonathan Cohen. “That’s the way they would start talking to me. I mean, every day. ‘I f—— can’t stand your show but my … ’ and then it would be fill in the blank: my uncle, my brother, my bus driver from high school, my rabbi, my dentist, my whatever.”

Simon continued: “I was sort of like, you are all these people, aren’t you? … This is not about your ophthalmologist — you like the show! No, maybe you don’t.”
In the background, Mayim couldn’t help but laugh along and nod in agreeance. “People would say ‘I don’t like your show but my grandmother does,'” she added.
After recounting the not so pleasant encounters as a result of his role in the show, fans flooded Twitter to express their adoration of The Big Bang Theory cast.
“Sorry people say that to you I love the show. I have watched every episode from beginning to end and still laugh out loud… amazing cast well done… and thank you for every laugh I was with you the whole way,” one person wrote in the Twitter comments section. “Listen I loved your show, but my whatever liked it [too]. The characters were relatable. The show outlined the struggles of being nerdy and dating. @missmayim Watching Amy change as a person was a testament to your acting skills. @simonhelberg Brisket never sounded so good,” another added. “You and @simonhelberg are so great @missmayim . I totally love your performances on Big Bang Theory. The episode where Amy and Howard bond with Neil Diamond made me wish to have a friend like Amy or Howard,” someone else chimed in.
All this to say, although the divisive series went off the air in 2019, it continues to make waves in entertainment. And ICYMI, fans of the show will now be able to get an even deeper look into its roots with the upcoming book, The Big Bang Theory: The Definitive, Inside Story of the Epic Hit Series, which is set to come out in October of this year.
