Luke Bryan has Blake Shelton on his mind — but it’s not in the most uplifting way.
While the latest season of The Voice is officially underway, American Idol’s next installment won’t be premiering until early next year. Still, just because Luke isn’t on TV at the same time as his fellow country singer doesn’t mean he’s not thinking about him.
It all went down when the “Country Girl” singer was performing in Boone, Iowa, for his Farm Tour. While he was up on stage, Luke brought up college football, and he riled up fans in the audience when he announced the state’s home team, the Iowa State Cyclones, would be defeated. “Y’all know I’m a Georgia Bulldogs fan, and we’re gonna whip y’alls a–es this year,” he said, according to multiple outlets.
In a turn of events, folks in the crowd started booing the American Idol judge. But instead of offering an immediate apology, the “Play It Again” artist had a comeback that played into his ongoing friendly rivalry with The Voice coach.
“You know what? That’s the first time I ever felt like Blake Shelton,” Luke jokingly said. “Just do not put that on YouTube!”
Per his request, the moment didn’t make its way on to the video platform (yet!) but it did land on TikTok when a fan captured the hilarious scene. As folks may know, Luke and Blake have joked about each other throughout the years, but it’s all in good fun. When the country singers aren’t exchanging witty banter with one another, they have opened up about pushing each other in their careers.

During an episode of Luke’s Apple Music show Party Barn Radio, he revealed that it was Blake who encouraged him to join American Idol. “You said, ‘Do it.’ I said, ‘Heck yeah, I’m going to do it,’” Luke said to Blake. “Man, it was like you told me. It certainly opens your eyes, opens your world up to stuff you never can imagine. Thank you for that.”
“I remember when I took the role of Idol, I’m like, ‘Man, there ain’t no way I’m going to be boohooing and crying and emotional,’” he added. “But it is emotional, and it is amazing to watch kids put their lives on the line.”
We wonder if Blake has hard Luke’s latest comment about him. Something tells us that the “God’s Country” vocalist already has a clever comeback in his back pocket.
